Just like so many people, I have tried at least a dozen leashes.  I was always looking for the perfect leash.  I wanted a leash that was strong, stylish and comfortable in my hand when my dog pulled.  I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted so I set out to build a better leash. 

I spent nearly two years researching, developing and testing materials before creating Alaska Leash Company, LLC in November of 2005.  All of this work was done in Dutch Harbor, Alaska.  My husband and I had three big dogs and lived in a small apartment.  I started Alaska Leash Company, LLC in the second bedroom of this small apartment.  I would hang the ventilator tube out the window when I cut rope or branded foam handles. 

It storms and blows a lot in the Aleutians, so there were lots of days when I couldn’t work.  Plus the neighbors hated when I had to pound rope clamps for hours.  It was also really hard to build the business from the middle of the Bering Sea.  Round trip flights into Anchorage cost one thousand dollars.  So, in April of 2006 we moved our home and business to just north of Anchorage.  Now I have a big workshop on the first level of our home in Eagle River, Alaska.  I chose this house because it had a workshop with the built in ventilator!
